Wednesday 21st January 2015 – Play Castle Visit
Today we took the older children on their first outing which wasn’t within walking distance and they absolutely loved it! The children spent the morning at the Play Castle, a local indoor activity centre where they practised and developed their physical skills a variety of different ways such as climbing, swinging, dodging, building, rolling, sliding, running, hoping, shuffling etc. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and if your child took part we hope they told you all about it.
Friday 16th January 2015 – Digger Rides
The children from both nurseries this week had the rare opportunity to have a go on a digger. They talked about the levers, lifting, dropping, positional language and what they were going to do next and why. Most of all they really enjoyed being inside and controlling a digger!

Thursday 27th November 2014 – Thanksgiving Celebration
Today we have been celebrating and learning about
Thanksgiving with the children.
Thanksgiving is a holiday about pilgrims and family,
but it is also about giving thanks for everything. We read stories and talked about what we are thankful for, some of the things that the children said they are thankful for were 'Mummy's and Daddy's, brother's and sister's, food that we eat and the toys that we have at home and at nursery.' The children talked about what foods are harvested, including vegetables, wheat and oats, and what foods can be made from them.
They then enjoyed making their own flapjacks using oats. They also role-played with the Indian and Pilgrim puppets they had made. The carers would also like to say 'Thank You' to all the children and families that support us and for the pumpkin pie that one of the parents made. Happy Thanksgiving!!

At nursery we celebrated the Hindu New Year called Diwali. The children made clay lamps called diyas and decorated them with paints. They also helped to make Hawla, a sweet food often eaten during Diwali, which the children ate for snack, some liked it and some didn't!! The children also coloured rangoli pictures and explored coloured rice by trailing their fingers through it and practised form their letters in. The children enjoyed making handprint elephants by mixing paint colours together and painting their own hands. After printing their handprints onto the paper they added sequins to decorate the elephant for the Diwali festival.
Wednesday 15th October 2014 – No Pens Wednesday
'No Pens Day' is a national initiative, mainly for schools, where children use their words rather than always trying to write everything down, so we adapted it to suit our nursery. Throughout the day we concentrated on communication activities and spent the day following the children's lead! We read interactive stories, played group games, played with the rhythm sticks and completed jigsaw puzzles. We also played with the ICT car that had to be programmed by pressing the correct buttons to move it in different directions around the room. The children enjoyed playing with the small world people and the bus, lining them up at the bus stop. So we then went on our own imaginary bus ride! We lined up to buy our tickets, got on the bus and sang songs on the journey to the beach whilst the conductor collected the tickets!
